Payment Methods

The Municipality of Crowsnest Pass accepts payments via:

Mail: Mail payment to Municipality of Crowsnest Pass, Box 600, Crowsnest Pass, AB T0K 0E0. Please allow sufficient time for payment to reach the office before the penalty date indicated on the statement.

Municipal Office: Payments by cash, cheque, and debit can be made during business hours from 8:30 - 4:30 pm.  Night deposit is also available.  All cheques must be payable to the Municipality of Crowsnest Pass. Cheques are conditional payment until honoured. Penalties will apply for any dishonoured payment.

Financial Institutions: Payment can be made at most chartered banks, trust companies, credit unions and Alberta Treasury Branches.

Online or Telephone Banking: If you have internet or cell phone data access, you can pay your bill online or through telephone banking.  

Pre-authorized Payment Plan: Pre-authorized payment plans are available on a monthly basis for both Property Taxes and Utilities.  Please contact the Tax & Utility Department at 403-562-8833.

Payments by Select Credit and Visa Debit Cards: Certain services can be paid directly through a secure online payment system (with applicable third party fees). See the list below for current invoices available to apply credit card payments and a link to pay with your credit card.

Pay Your Utility and Property Tax Bill Through Internet Banking

From your financial institution's online banking site, locate the Municipality of Crowsnest Pass as the Payee. Please note that the Payee name may be entered differently depending on the bank, using a broad search such as 'crowsnest' tends to work best. 

Once the Payee has been selected, choose the account type (utilities or taxes) and enter your account number as shown on your invoice. For guidance on how to find your account number, please see the drop down list below. 

Contact your bank if you have any difficulties.  Please note that most banks can take up to three days for processing.

Locating Your Account and Bill Payment Information

All Internet Banking (utility and property taxes only) and credit card payment via OptionPay will require your account or customer number.

Please note:  For Internet Banking, payee name may be entered differently depending on the bank, using a broad search such as 'crowsnest' tends to work best.  Contact your bank if you have any difficulties.  Most banks can take up to three days for processing.

Property Tax Payments

Once you are in OptionPay, select Property Taxes from the Payment Type dropdown.
Your SEVEN-digit tax roll number is on your Property Tax Notice (shown highlighted on the sample). Enter the tax roll number as it appears - without spaces.

Utility Payments

Once you are in OptionPay, select Utility Bills from the Payment Type dropdown. 
Enter your utility account number without the decimal (shown highlighted on the sample).

Accounts Receivable

Once you are in OptionPay, select Accounts Receivable from the Payment Type dropdown.
Enter your Customer number (shown highlighted on the sample).

Business License Payments

Once you are in OptionPay, select Business Licenses from the Payment Type dropdown.
Enter your Customer number (shown highlighted on the sample).

Development and Building Permits

Once you are in OptionPay, select Development and Building Permits from the Payment Type dropdown.

Building Permits arrive in an email from The Inspections Group, and Development Permits arrive in an email from the Municipality.

You will find your permit number in the email header and/or the subject line, and the amount due is in the email itself (shown highlighted in the attached sample). 

Gas, Plumbing and Electrical Permits

Once you are in OptionPay, select Permits from the Payment Type dropdown.

Enter your permit number from the top right corner of your Permit (shown highlighted on sample) The amount due is in the lower left hand corner (highlighted on sample).

Municipal Violation Fines

Once you are in OptionPay, select Municipal Violation Tags from the Payment Type dropdown.

Enter your tag number from the lower left corner of your Tag (shown highlighted on sample). There are two payment options: the fine amount or the early payment option (highlighted on sample). PLEASE NOTE: The early payment option is only applicable for certain contraventions, and only if paid within ten days of the date of contravention.

What is OptionPay?

Is there an added fee for using OptionPay to pay my MCNP bills with my credit card?

Yes All transactions carried out through OptionPay follow a tiered schedule, starting at a minimum fee of $2.00. To see the full fee schedule for using this payment option, please visit their fee schedule here.

Why is there an added fee to pay with credit card?

The fees are administered through the Option Pay program for the use of their service, and not through the Municipality of Crowsnest Pass.

Is my credit card and personal information secure with this program?

OptionPay provides information on their security measures here. Please note that the Municipality of Crowsnest Pass takes no responsibility for, and accepts no liability, in the event of security breaches, technical difficulty, or other issues that may arise from your use for OptionPay. All users accept responsibility for their use of this service and do so at their own risk.
